Poverty Reduction, Social Determinants of Health and Why We Need to Adopt a Health Equity Approach

Friday, September 25, 2009
  9:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Folk Arts Multicultural Centre of St. Catharines
85 Church Street, St. Catharines ON L2R 3C7

Registration Fee: $25.00 (includes lunch and refreshments)

This event will bring representatives of organizations working on health equity issues and poverty reduction strategies together with a broad spectrum of individual community members, service providers, policymakers, researchers and advocates.

Through the workshop we will build our shared understanding of health as a human right, how to better document and present the facts with respect to the inequities and disparities that define our communities while learning about policies, programs, services and opportunities that will help us to move toward health equity for all in the Niagara Region and across Ontario. We will focus on strategies and initiatives which can help us develop locally relevant action plans, including strategies for collaborating with institutions, advocacy groups, governments, funders and the media to work together to address and redress growing structural or systemic inequality.
