our new name, Health Nexus, we are bringing a new energy to our service,

for the health promotion sector in Ontario and beyond.

When Ontario Prevention Clearinghouse was founded in 1985, prevention was a new and growing movement and the name reflected our role as an information clearinghouse. Today we do much more than transfer information from one source to another. We translate and transform it for the specialized needs of organizations and individuals engaged in promoting health.
Over the years, we moved upstream from prevention of disease and social problems to embrace health promotion. It's time for our name to reflect this evolution of our mission, vision, strengths and strategic priorities.
Our new name works equally well in French - Nexus Santé - and in English - Health Nexus - in recognition of our status as a provincially-designated French language services provider since 1996. By leaving out the geographic reference, our new name recognizes our work in Ontario and beyond.
Nexus comes from the Latin word nectere meaning to join, connect, tie or bind. There are three generally accepted definitions, all of which apply to us:
1.
a link or connection - at Health Nexus we connect health promotion
with healthier communities through reduced demand on the health care
and social service systems by advocating for healthy public policy.
2. a connected, group, network or series - at Health Nexus we
collaborate with others to generate commitment to prevention and health
promotion - we are a catalyst for networks and partnerships.
3. the centre or focus of something - Health Nexus is the "place
to go" for the right knowledge, resources and networks to
meet your needs.
What can you expect from Health Nexus?
Health Nexus will continue to build the capacity of individuals, organizations and communities to promote health, and foster the development and implementation of effective strategies to improve population and individual health in Ontario and beyond.
